Received my first rejection today. I respect the publication for rejecting it. The ending was no good, not to mention the most of what preceded the ending. The fundamental problem with my fiction is that it does not have purpose.
The character's do not have strong desires. This is a reflection of the writer. I am not sure I understand the notion of "want" beyond material possessions or straight, shiny hair. What does your character want? This question will haunt me to the grave, and I will lead an unpublished, middle management corporate life all the way there.
I'll stop myself here and watch some television instead.
