You may have noticed that the look of this site has changed since May. You may also have noticed that the entries have not changed drastically since May. Or, you may have given up entirely on checking this site ever because there have generally been no changes since you last checked in May. What was going on in the background during all those months of mostly no change?
1) I switched to Movable Type, a powerful and free blogging tool -- the best kind -- that allows things like categorization (see right), search (see right, but don't use it) and many other features and mysteries that I've yet to tap.
2) I spent five months excusing myself from blogging because I had only installed movable type but had not the willpower to make the full transition.
3) On Saturday, the combination of a rainy day, a cancelled barbecue and an assigned reading of Proust's Guermantes Way, I decided that I had even bigger tasks to blow off and could get down to the business of giving birth to the new blog.
I toiled from 11am until 11pm. I made up style sheets on the fly having never created a style sheet before. I fought with margins, floats and padding until the three columns in the site sort of matched the three columns in the Photoshop comp my boyfriend had so generously created for me. I threw three or for fits of frustration, couldn't believe the hour every time I checked the clock then reluctantly quit at 11pm to walk the dog and vacuum the apartment for house guests who were arriving the next afternoon.
But the site looked great. Until I got to work this morning and saw it on a PC.
This site looks superb on a Mac. It has pictures, fonts are aligned, fonts are smooth. So, as I'm sure most of you are viewing what's supposed to be a new and improved site on a PC, allow me to extend my sincerest apologies and assure you that Macs really are better.
